Why it ended - poem

You’re probably still sitting around wondering
Why things ended.
conflating and delegating half-truths and mishaps to look like an angel
To the friends, I never liked
The ones you secretly resent for not being like
It was never about some boy
It was the cycle of disrespect
Forgotten plans, an empty fridge whenever I was around
The lack of awareness, weaponised incompetence, running to your parents like a toddler, pointing at the stain on their pants
I am glad I’ll never have to meet your friend again
See her smug smirk and shark eyes
You raised your gun twice, once to shoot me in the chest, and the second time, there was no sound
Just the grave realisation that you never had my back
And I would always be collateral damage to your low self-esteem
I never understood when you said that we were best friends.
But I understand now.
That I was your best friend
But you were never mine.
Prompts:
Dead end - rivers run dry - times up- closed doors -
Fires that burn blue hurt the most- a goodbye lullaby -
Sweet dreams to what we once were - I knew it from the beginning-
A gut feeling hurts, but it's never wrong - Did you ever care?-
A sweet relief - Shark eyes
